AGDAL Gardens
AGDAL Garden of Marrakech

The gardens of AGDAL are among the oldest gardens arabo-Andalusians. It is an orchard where one can admire hundreds of olive-trees as well as orange trees, apricot trees, etc and two immense basins. These gardens are spread out over a surface of 500 hectares, calms and resting, one is far from the noises of the city. A true haven of peace (Open only Friday afternoon and Sunday).
The sultan Abd El Moumen and his successor Youssef Abou Yacoub made plant in XII century an immense orchard closed in the south of the city. Called " El Bouhayra " - " small sea " - then Masarat by Saadiens, this park was finally called Agdal, Berber term adoptee under the dynasty Alaouite. Hassan I then made build cob ramparts to protect it.
The gardens of Agdal comprise two large basins filled with water bring a little freshness especially the summer. They are fed by Ourika, river downward of the large atlas. These gardens are only with 4 kilometres of the place Jemaa El Fna at the southern end of Medina
